Jeanne Gehret has taught high school, led religious retreats, made four quilts, fallen off a horse, given sermons, resettled African refugees, portrayed historical women in costume, led a Girl Scout troop, and taught guitar. She loves the color green, the ocean, huge trees, and English country dancing. With her husband Jon, she has ridden more than 3,000 miles on a tandem bicycle, taught English to a couple from China, remodeled the kitchen, made a home for two children, two hamsters, and six cats, hiked the Grand Canyon and the Great Wall of China, visited the homes of Susan B. Anthony, Frederick Douglass, and Thomas Edison, and planted dozens of trees. When not writing and publishing, she can be found gardening, leading an arthritis aquafit class, or working as a licensed massage therapist and reflexologist. One time, when applying for a job, she was told that her resume read like a travelogue.
Ms. Gehret is the youngest of four children and the only girl. When she was eleven, she wanted to be a famous folk singer like Joan Baez. Two of the people she most admires are her son Dan and her daughter Beth.
